About Pins & Needles Art Quilyting

The Pins & Needles Art Quilters group is a neighborhood circle formed from members of River City Quilter’s Guild. We meet once a month to exchange information about art quilts, to share and critique our work, to pursue exhibitions and competitions, and publishing options. We currently have over twenty dedicated members from varied backgrounds. We challenge our group monthly to try new techniques, or themes, to explore mixed media options, and to share new discoveries.

Our group’s work is regularly shown at the River City Quilter’s Guild annual show in Sacramento, California. Our members’ work has also been shown at several national and international shows, as well as in local venues.

Monochromatic Quilts

We each drew a paint chip sample and used those colors to create a monochromatic design based on those limited colors. Here is our display at the River City Quilter's Annual Show in November 2011.

Three Words Challenge

We each drew three words, a verb, a noun and a color, and then created a quilt based on those three words. It was a very challenging and fun exercise.

Sacramento Skyline

Each quilter received a full size paper pattern and a 4x6 inch color photo of the panoramic scene to help in the selection of fabric colors for her slice. Since we planned to hang the five slices of each quilt from a single sleeve we were instructed to omit traditional quilt binding and to pay particular attention to the horizontal lines so the slices would line up in the final display.

Sacramento Skyline (Version #1) won a third place ribbon in the River City Quilter's annual quilt show, was displayed in the Sacramento State University art gallery in the library, and was awarded an Honorable Mention in the California State Fair and was on display at Pacific International Quilt Festival.
