About Pins & Needles Art Quilyting

The Pins & Needles Art Quilters group is a neighborhood circle formed from members of River City Quilter’s Guild. We meet once a month to exchange information about art quilts, to share and critique our work, to pursue exhibitions and competitions, and publishing options. We currently have over twenty dedicated members from varied backgrounds. We challenge our group monthly to try new techniques, or themes, to explore mixed media options, and to share new discoveries.

Our group’s work is regularly shown at the River City Quilter’s Guild annual show in Sacramento, California. Our members’ work has also been shown at several national and international shows, as well as in local venues.

July 2014 P&N Meting

Our July meeting was purely a social, no business as so many are away on summer fun. Lori Wisheropp graciously offered up her backyard for our meeting.

We welcomed our new member, Peggy Sahmaunt.

Sandra shared the Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls she made. Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls have been around since 1915, and I’m sure we can all remember them from birthdays and Christmas from the past. Sandra is keeping the tradition alive in her family.

We Shared

Artist: Peggy Sahmaunt
Peggy's quilt is a series of concentric circles made with triangle pieces, each of which are sewn on with a bead.  Also, each piece in the border is also in the circles.  Rather than using stitching around the circle, there is a series of beads holding the layers together.  Peggy has donated it to the Sutter Breast Cancer Quilt Auction which will take place in October this year.

Artist: Sandra Torguson
The pattern for these dolls was found on the free table at one of the River City Quilter’s Guild meetings. They are 15" dolls. Aaah! is the first statement from adults. You can see the heartfelt memories in their faces. They have been sent to Sandra’s twin grandkids in Ohio. The hair was sewn on piece by piece. Face was drawn with markers.
