About Pins & Needles Art Quilyting

The Pins & Needles Art Quilters group is a neighborhood circle formed from members of River City Quilter’s Guild. We meet once a month to exchange information about art quilts, to share and critique our work, to pursue exhibitions and competitions, and publishing options. We currently have over twenty dedicated members from varied backgrounds. We challenge our group monthly to try new techniques, or themes, to explore mixed media options, and to share new discoveries.

Our group’s work is regularly shown at the River City Quilter’s Guild annual show in Sacramento, California. Our members’ work has also been shown at several national and international shows, as well as in local venues.

Markmaking

For our October meeting it was Helen Burke's turn to choose the activity. She suggested we experiment with the project presented on the cover of Quilting Arts, Aug/Sept issue, Sketch to Stitch using Inktense Pencils.
We each brought a small quilt sandwich made with light colored fabric, and stitched with a simple design using dark thread.
Helen brought her Inktense pencils for us to share. Kari and several other members also brought watercolor pencils, watercolors crayons, and other supplies to share.

Congratulations to Connie Horne

My quilt featuring General George Washington and Black Solders was one of the quilts in the Cincinnati news article.  Photos were being taken at the show but I had no idea my quilt was going to be in the article.  You can also see other quilts in the show. I am very proud to have been a part of this event of history portrayed in quilts.
